Position: Team Leader

Location: Indianapolis, IN

 

Responsibilities

General duties include direction and development of civil/site design projects and leadership of a Civil/Site Team.  Responsibilities include workflow and staff management, staff development, technical leadership, project management, quality assurance, and client management.

 

Workflow and Staff Management

  • Facilitate staff sharing between teams
  • Monthly team revenue and staffing projections with a 3-month look ahead
  • Monitor monthly team revenue, billings, profitability, and staff utilization
  • Identify hiring needs and assist with interviewing
  • Ensure proper staff training
  • Be flexible with staff on opportunities for advancement and learning within the team and the company
  • Effectively deal with personnel issues within the team in conjunction with the Group Leader, Human Resources and upper management
  • Assist Group Leader with employee performance review effort
  • Update master group proposal tracking spreadsheet updated monthly to monitor workflow trends
  • Team timesheet and expense report review/approval
  • Keep team morale high

Staff Development

  • Assessment and goal setting for staff including performance reviews
  • Develop technical skills of Design Engineers, Project Engineers and Project Managers
  • Develop Design Engineers to become Project Managers or Senior Design Engineers
  • Develop Project Managers to prepare proposals, establish fees, bill projects, and to be responsible for the financial success of projects
  • Develop Project Managers to successfully manage all aspects of projects
  • Develop Project Managers to create and maintain client relationships
  • Develop Project Managers to delegate design tasks
  • Create a timetable for Project Managers’ development and monitor progress
  • Monitor and assist Project Managers’ performance
  • Motivate employees and facilitate open dialogue and feedback

Technical Leadership

  • Direct all aspects of the development of civil/site design projects
  • Facilitate coordination between groups on multi-discipline projects
  • Mentor less experienced staff
  • Aid in technical problem solving
  • Identify project roadblocks and assist in resolving them

Project Management

  • Oversight of proposals, interviews, fee justifications, and contracts for the team
  • Team project development and oversight
  • Track financial progress of individual projects and Project Managers
  • Drive velocity on all projects and maintain project schedules
  • Assist team and other teams to be profitable
  • Responsible for collection of Team AR as well as specific assigned clients

Quality Assurance

  • Assist in the development and implementation of quality processes
  • Ensure adoption by staff
  • Ensure that every project gets adequate review at every stage
  • Use technical resources to assist in quality control
  • Client Management, Marketing & Sales
  • Establish good relationships with clients
  • Client touches to determine customer satisfaction
  • Oversight of contract preparation and negotiations
  • Accompanying salespeople to establish new client relationships
  • Work closely with the Private Sector business development staff on marketing, client development and management
  • Conceptualizing and selling new work to existing and new clients
  • Look for new opportunities with existing clients
  • Look for opportunities with prospective clients
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 years in the civil/site engineering business, preferably in Indiana
  • Broad technical knowledge of the civil/site construction and engineering industry in Indiana
  • Proven leadership ability, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Licensed professional engineer (PE) in Indiana or the ability to obtain Indiana PE license
