Position: Public Relations Strategist

Location: Indianapolis, IN-Onsite, 5 days per week

The Public Relations Strategist will focus on spearheading earned media and storytelling for the company and clients. The ideal candidate should be a seasoned communications expert with a portfolio of driving, managing, and executing creative and impactful public relations campaigns. The candidate should have a deep understanding of the media landscape and the ability to develop, implement, and lead earned media/publicity strategies that align our company and client’s objectives with impactful return on investment.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Understanding of earned media strategies and experience developing and implementing publicity plans and tactics including compiling media lists.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills are a must, along with the ability to meet deadlines, juggle multiple tasks, and handle a fast-paced environment.
  • Write -- and collaborate with others to write -- informative content including news media pitches, news releases, newsletters, articles, scripts/talking points, project spotlights, social media posts, and other deliverables to promote our company’s and clients’ brand, projects, and services.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets, journalists, influencers, and industry professionals. Pitch story ideas and secure press coverage across various platforms (traditional and digital).
  • Develop content ideas and calendars for American Structurepoint and various clients we serve.
  • Develop and execute public relations plans and initiatives to help our company and clients achieve their goals.
  • Develop a thought leadership strategy to ensure company leaders are present via our earned media strategy.
  • Gather and use analytics to meet company and client engagement goals and develop insights from data.
  • Provide sound counsel and be comfortable providing editorial response recommendations to company leaders and clients.
  • Monitor media coverage, analyze public sentiment, and generate regular reports to measure the success and impact of PR efforts. Provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a project manager and keep multiple projects moving and on schedule.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities that promote an efficient and productive environment with a customer service focus among the Marketing + Communications Group.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field.   
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in PR, communications, or marketing.
  • Not afraid of making an initial “cold call” to establish new media relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and client teams at all levels.
  • Well-versed in AP Style.
  • Be proactive and highly motivated.
  • Be detailed oriented with an ability to focus on the larger picture.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to rework technical content to make it appropriate for a wider audience. This includes writing content for different marketing executions (social media posts, articles, website, ad copy, internal and external communications, etc.).
  • Organized, self-motivated, confident, energetic, and an idea generator.
  • Strong ability to multi-task to sustain multiple of projects at once.
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Cision or similar software, Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat, and project management/software systems.
  • Demonstrated media relations and social media experience including working with social media management platforms like Sprout Social, Hootsuite, and/or HubSpot is a plus.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Client Services experience and project management skills.
  • Industry knowledge a plus.
  • Agency experience is a plus.
