Position: Civil Practice Leader

Location: Tampa, FL

 

The Civil Practice Leader will oversee all aspects of civil/site development projects, while managing current and potential client relationships, driving business development efforts, as well as mentoring and developing staff members. A successful candidate will be a motivated, entrepreneurial minded, hands-on leader who is ready to take the next step forward in their career! 

 

Responsibilities

Workflow & Staff Management

  • Assists the Vice President and Group Leader in the go/no-go process, teaming arrangements, workshare, submittals, presentations, and fee proposals
  • Facilitate staff sharing between teams and other production groups
  • Oversight of project schedules and profitability
  • Monitor revenue, billings, profitability, and staff utilization
  • Ensures team members are consistently engaged in projects
  • Identify hiring needs and assist with recruiting & interviewing potential candidates
  • Effectively deal with personnel issues within the group in conjunction with Human Resources and upper management
  • Keep master group proposal tracking spreadsheet updated monthly to monitor workflow trends
  • Identify and implement effective strategies to keep staff morale high

Staff Development

  • Facilitate skill assessment and goal setting with staff members, including performance reviews
  • Guide and mentor staff in creating and monitoring their career development plan
  • Ensure proper staff training is provided
  • Develop technical skills of Design Engineers, Project Engineers, & Project Managers
  • Develop Project Managers to successfully manage all aspects of projects:
    • Prepare proposals, establish fees, bill projects, and to be responsible for the financial success of projects
    • Create and maintain client relationships
    • Delegate design tasks
  • Motivate employees and facilitate open dialogue and feedback

Technical Leadership 

  • Direct all aspects of the development of civil/site design projects, including but not limited to:
    • Design of site layouts, grading and drainage design, road design, utility design
    • Permitting of commercial & residential site development projects
    • Hydraulic/hydrologic analysis
  • Facilitate coordination between groups on multi-discipline projects
  • Aid in technical problem solving
  • Ensures QA/QC process is adhered to
  • Principal in charge of all Florida office civil/site projects

Project Management

  • Prepare proposals, attend interviews, fee justifications, and contracts for the practice
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate all project activities to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished within budgetary and schedule parameters
  • Coordinate with the client, local government agencies, permitting agencies, utility companies, and land acquisition professionals as necessary to drive the project schedule.
  • Track financial progress of individual projects and Project Managers
  • Takes responsibility for the financial success of the practice
  • Responsible for collection of Group AR as well as specific assigned clients
  • Serve as representative of the firm at all required project meetings, presentations, and public hearings

Client Management, Marketing & Sales

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with current and potential clients
  • Maintaining consistent communication with clients, addressing all project questions such as project scope, design expectations, project development process, schedule, extra work, and billings
  • Partners with Business Development team members on marketing, client relationship development and management
  • Secures projects from both new and existing clients

 

Performance Measures:

  • Progress of practice’s staff development
  • Staff retention
  • Quality assurance/claim minimization
  • Profitability of practice
  • Revenue volume of practice
  • Number of client relationships established and maintained
  • Growth of Civil Practice throughout Florida

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida
  • 8 or more years of experience leading diversified site development projects
  • Extensive client contacts and relationships with private developers, local municipalities and permitting agencies
  • Business development experience: writing proposals, leading presentations with the ability to win work, managing projects profitability, driving client satisfaction
  • Able to effectively communicate positively at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor staff members
