Position: Staff Engineer

Location: Indianapolis, IN

We offer the opportunity to work in a team-oriented, multi-discipline environment to produce exciting, diverse projects using state-of-the-art software.   Staff Engineers focus their efforts primarily on 2D and 3D analysis, design, and drafting of structural elements as well as construction administration tasks.    Staff Engineers work under the direction and mentoring of Project Engineers and Project Managers, and are responsible for accurately performing basic design and construction administration tasks including:

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and correctly interpreting Building Codes and related technical materials as required to perform their design tasks
  • Calculating loads (dead, live, snow/snowdrift, wind, seismic, etc.) applied to structures
  • Analyzing building structures and components thereof
  • Designing structural elements (such as columns, beams, joists, joist girders, slabs, footings, etc.)
  • Personally preparing construction documents in accordance with Structural Group drafting standards
    • Staff engineers are required to become proficient at using Revit Structure software to produce complete construction documents including plans, details, schedules, and general notes in the event that a BIM technician is unavailable.
  • Preparing markups and guiding BIM technicians for the purpose of generating construction documents in accordance with Structural Group drafting standards
  • Spot-checking calculations and back-checking completed drafting from markups
  • Computing material quantities for cost estimating
  • Reviewing construction submittals for conformance to the project design documents and organizing and maintaining logs and files thereof
  • Responding to RFIs from contractors and subcontractors
  • Attending Construction meetings, performing field observation site visits (accompanied by Project Engineers/Managers as appropriate), and writing field reports
  • Coordinating all assigned tasks with Project Managers and other design engineers on team (under the supervision of Project Engineers/Managers as appropriate)
  • Communicating, Coordinating, and Interacting with clients, consultants, and team members regarding project information as appropriate

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred)
  • Must have successfully passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE), or be on track to do so.
