Position: Business Development Director

Location: Northern Indiana (Based out of our South Bend Design Center)

 

American Structurepoint is currently seeking a Business Development Director in our South Bend Design Center. We are a high-energy firm looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic person with the drive to succeed in a competitive professional services market catering to local government clients such as cities, towns, and counties.

Responsibilities

A successful candidate will develop relationships with Local Governmental entities (cities, counties, towns and townships), introduce these clients to our broad spectrum of services and our deep bench of professional engineers, and ultimately position American Structurepoint as a trusted professional service provider in that community. An Indiana Local Public Agency Business Development Director (BDD) represents American Structurepoint as liaison between the Company’s Technical Professional and Designers and all local government officials within their assigned geographic territory. The BDD will have numerous daily interactions with local elected and appointed officials to advise on American Structurepoint’s planning, engineering, and architectural services which could be provided to help accomplish that communities desired economic development, capital improvement, and quality of life enhancement goals. The BDD is the “face of American Structurepoint” with their clients and requires a professional with excellent communication skills and possessing (or capable of learning) a basic understanding of the inner workings of local government and how public projects are planned, funded, designed, and developed in order to connect clients with the best company resources to address the clients’ needs.

 

Planning and preparation activities to develop knowledge of company services and professional resources, and to promote the development of local government client relationships include:

 

  • Creating and maintaining marketing strategies based on the goals of the company.
  • Maintain business development records regarding daily activities and client conversations.
  • Create and maintain a business development plan which includes developing a strategy for each client community within the territory to strengthen relationships and become a preferred service provider.
  • Develop opportunities for professional service assignments with clients throughout assigned territory, track their advancement, and perform follow-up as necessary to win jobs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with the local government officials and maintain their connection with company executives and key technical staff.
  • Work with internal executive, technical and marketing staff to coordinate and prepare proposal packages.
  • Understand the political process with each type of local government client and the process by which professional service providers, like American Structurepoint, are selected.
  • Attend industry Association Conferences and Trade Shows to connect with clients in attendance.
  • Know who our competition is in each community within assigned territory
  • Utilize effective communication internally and externally to position American Structurepoint for contract selection.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of sales experience
  • Ability to travel within assigned region
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary including overnight on several occasions throughout the year as necessary for conferences and trade shows. 
  • Knowledge of or previous working experience with local governments is a plus.
