Position: Vice President of Transportation

Location: Texas – Dallas or Austin area

 

The primary function of this position is a key member of the executive leadership team establishing the vision for our Texas business and development of strategies to grow the group in terms of volume, stability and profitability. This position will lead our Transportation practice in Texas, with an emphasis on expanding our geographical footprint. This will include growing business with existing clients as well as developing new clients. This position will also be key in further developing an established office for continued growth and employee satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include the development and implementation of an aggressive strategic growth plan for growth of revenue, profitability, and sales of our Texas business. Accountable for all operational, sales, and people metrics.

 

Oversight of production including workflow and staff management as well as prioritization and scheduling of projects is critical. Technical leadership including mentoring staff, technical problem solving and facilitating roadblock resolution, as well as ensuring the utilization of quality management systems on all projects is included.

 

Marketing and sales including selling new projects to existing and new clients, participation in proposal and interview preparation, attending weekly marketing meetings, as well as directing and accompanying business development staff to establish new client relationships.

 

Client management including client touches to determine customer satisfaction and principal-in-charge for selected clients and projects. Input into project pricing to ensure profitability for selected clients and projects.

 

Staff development, recruitment and retention of new staff will be essential, as well as the development and mentorship of existing staff to get the most out of our people as we continue building our Texas office.  Assessment of staff and identifying shortfalls in skills or experience will be crucial as we look to build a top tier engineering practice.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years in the Civil Engineering industry.
  • Broad technical knowledge of the Transportation engineering industry in Texas.
  • Experience in sales and marketing of services, as well as the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Proven leadership ability, with experience recruiting and retaining staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Performance Measures:

The primary measurement of success for this position is the overall growth of volume and profitability of our Transportation division in the Texas market. Other measurements are as follows:

  • Growth in Texas revenue and profitability
  • Involvement in strategic direction of all sales.
  • Active participation in selling and closing sales on significant projects.
  • Number of client relationships established and maintained.
  • Further develop an established office of continued growth, employee satisfaction, and desire to be the employer of choice in a competitive AE marketplace, consistently recruiting and retaining staff.
  • Present quality decision making traits and have the ability to multi-task multiple business strategies, leads, and technical pursuits simultaneously and successfully secure new work.
