Group: Transportation/Utility Infrastructure/Construction Solutions

Position: Regional Leader: Multi-Disciplined 

Location: Cleveland, OH


This Regional Leadership opportunity is equal parts entrepreneur, project manager, and mentor. The primary function of this position is to play an integral part in helping expand our geographic footprint in northeast Ohio. This will include growing business with existing clients as well as developing new clients for the Transportation, Utility Infrastructure, and Construction Solutions practices. This position will also be key in further developing an established office for continued growth and employee satisfaction.


General duties are marketing and sales including selling new projects to existing and new clients, participation in proposal and interview preparation, attending weekly marketing meetings, as well as directing and accompanying business development staff to establish new clients.


Client management including client touches to determine customer satisfaction and principal-in-charge for selected clients and projects. Management of project roadblock resolution and client problem solving for selected clients and projects. Input into project pricing to ensure profitability for selected clients and projects.


Staff development and recruitment of new staff will be essential, as well as the development and mentorship of existing staff to get the most out of our people.  Assessment of staff and identifying shortfalls in skills or experience will be crucial as we look to build a top tier environmental engineering practice.



  • Transportation, Utility Infrastructure and Construction Solutions vision:
    • Significant input into the direction of those practices, and markets for company pursuit.
  • Marketing and Sales:
    • Selling new projects to existing and new clients, engaging with infrastructure owners and agencies ensuring we are positioned for opportunities in a competitive marketplace.


    • Develop, organize, and implement project specific pursuit strategies for multiple service lines including transportation, utility infrastructure, construction solutions, and other key service lines, where necessary coordinating internally with other internal business units.
    • Articulate clear direction for business development opportunities and be able to efficiently develop effective, well organized, and technically sound proposals that deliver a compelling presentation.
    • Achievement of sales growth that meets or exceeds annual goals, both regionally and within the State.
    • Work with executive leadership to develop, prioritize, and implement strategic plans to gain new market share annually and drive opportunities within multiple service lines.
    • Provide an industry reputation that is trusted, well liked, and seen as a team player to encourage continued client development, strategic business teaming with other firms, and foster a strong culture of trust and mutual respect.
    • Lead and execute sales plans that adapt to market changes and provide flexibility to achieve sales goals in a dynamic and changing work environment.
    • Attending weekly marketing meetings.
    • Accompanying business development people to establish new client relationships.
  • Client Management:
    • Drive growth across northeast Ohio, through building strategic relationships with client decision makers and further develop long-term relationships to become a trusted and reputable service provider to the client.
    • Client touches to determine customer satisfaction.
    • Principal in charge for selected clients.
    • Participation in proposal creation and interview preparation.
    • Participation of project pricing to ensure profitability.
    • Facilitation roadblock resolution.
  • Staff Development
    • Leadership in mentoring of staff.
    • Assess staff and identify strengths and weaknesses
    • Active participation in the recruitment of new staff.
    • Participation in review performance of staff in Ohio.



  • A minimum of 20+ years in the Civil Engineering industry, with OH PE license
  • Broad technical knowledge of transportation, utility infrastructure, and construction engineering industry in Ohio
  • Experience or strong potential in sales and marketing of services, as well as the ability to  build client relationships
  • Present excellent leadership, strong communication, and technical writing skills to successfully achieve annual goals across the organization.
  • Proven leadership ability, with the ability to recruit and retain strategic staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Performance Measures:

The primary measurement of success for this position is the overall growth of volume and profitability of our Transportation, Utility Infrastructure and Construction Solutions business units. Other measurements are as follows:

  • Involvement in strategic direction of all sales
  • Growth in strategic markets
  • Active participation in selling and closing sales on significant projects
  • Number of client relationships established and maintained
  • Further develop an established office of continued growth, employee satisfaction, and desire to be the employer of choice in a competitive AE marketplace, consistently recruiting and retaining staff.
  • Present quality decision making traits and have the ability to multi-task multiple business strategies, leads, and technical pursuits simultaneously and successfully secure new work.
